JTowell, who has held the position of conductor on the Oxford and Henderson road for 21 years, has recently been promoted and his run now is from Keysville to Raleigh. Capt. Powell is one of the best of rail road men and the promotion is a de served one. Mrs. Rob. S. Booth took her daugh ter, Miss Henrietta, to a hospital in Richmond, Ya., Thursday of last week, where a successful operation was per formed for appendicitis At last reports Miss Henrietta. wa3 getting along nicely and the many friends of the family hero rejoice with them in this fact. From the best informa tion we can gather, it seems that Reavis aud another negro wore on their way to church at Areola when they passed Silver in the road and reproved him for cursing. A Ught was the result and tieavis got tlie best of it. Keavis went on to chu?ch aud- while there was warned. to avoid meeting Silver on re-, turning hema. He did so as best he could, but it seen?s that Silver was iu waiting for him and tired two shots at Reavis from the sidy of the road. Both took effect, one in ins hand aud the other iu hia right shoulder and back. The shot used weie of a small size and consequently did not prove dangerous.
